Ohio Becomes First State to Provide a Self-Help Mobile Application that Empowers Individuals Experiencing Problems with Gambling in Partnership between Time Out Ohio & RecoverMe

Press release

RecoverMe is a mobile application that helps individuals gauge their gambling behavior using validated assessment tools, flexibly engage with sessions based on evidence-based therapy and track their gambling habits. RecoverMe also contains additional services for individuals who are in crisis and need emergency support.

RecoverMe uses two (2) of the most widely recognized and respected methods of gambling treatment – cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and mindfulness. RecoverMe also uses the Canadian Problem Gambling Severity Index (PGSI) which is the same tool the Ohio uses in the Ohio Problem Gambling Survey that is disseminated every five years.

Ohio is the first state in the US to offer this kind of support and protection.

Jimmie Hicks, Ohio Lottery’s Deputy Director of Responsible Gambling said, “This mobile application is a valuable tool at a time when Ohio’s gambling landscape has changed significantly, and we are excited to be able to offer this kind of free support to those who choose to utilize self-help resourcesto those in need”.

Amanda Blackford, Director of Operations and Problem Gambling Services for the Ohio Casino Control Commission said, "To better serve the citizens of Ohio and address their needs, it is crucial for the State to offer a diverse range of support tools. The RecoverMe initiative is a valuable addition to the suite of free services available for Ohioans struggling with problematic gambling behaviors. This resource will provide much-needed assistance in their journey towards recovery."
